Increase in POL prices challenged



LAHORE – The Lahore High Court has been requested to declare null and void a recent increase in prices of petroleum products by the government.
The requested has been made in civil miscellaneous application filed by Judicial Activism Panel through its chairman Azhar Siddique in already pending petition challenging continuous increase in prices of petroleum products. Petitioner said the recent increase in fuel prices would push the inflation to new heights creating a crisis in the country. Therefore, the court should take notice of increase in the prices and declare them null and void.
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought a report regarding the recommendations made by a committee constituted to resolve the matter of Ghaddafi Stadium’s wall.
Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu also directed Gulberg TMO to appear on the next date of hearing, Sep 17.
During the course of hearing on Tuesday, a provincial law officer told the court that the committee constituted to resolve the issue was framing its recommendations and matter would be resolved soon.
The court however, directed the committee to submit its recommendations on the next date of hearing.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had filed the petition and stated that city administration demolished the wall constructed for the security purposes. They said the administration also got arrested their employees and guards.
The petitioner requested the court to stop the administration concerned not to interfere into the matter.
