LAHO RE - Punjab Health Department spokesman said Friday that a comprehensive policy based on career opportunities for young doctors had been formulated which would be announced by the Punjab Chief Minister very soon so that anxiety among the young doctors could be removed. According to a handout, the spokesman stated that in this connection, chief minister had announced 50 per cent increase in monthly stipend of the house officers and post graduate trainee doctors and the finance department after completing procedural requirements has issued notification in this regard. The spokesman further disclosed that seats have been provided to house job and PG Trainee doctors according to the rules and regulations of PMDC. Moreover, admission in the MBBS classes have also been given in accordance with the PMDC rules and capacity of medical colleges and their attached hospitals. Therefore, he said, the basic right on house job and PG Trainee seats in any government hospital is of those students who got admission on open merit in that medical college. The spokesman said that all the rules and regulations of PMDC are equally applicable on both public sector and private medical colleges and their attached teaching hospitals and it is the prime duty of private medical colleges to provide house job opportunities to their graduates. It is worth mentioning that fee and other charges of private medical colleges are 15 times greater than the govt sector colleges, therefore, it is the duty of private medical colleges to provide house jobs at their attached hospitals. The spokesman said that keeping in view the larger interest of young doctors, a meeting of principals of medical colleges would be convened and after consultation, a programme would be chalked out to accommodate MBBS graduates of private medical colleges or those doctors who had graduated from abroad on such seats. In this connection final decision would be taken within a week. The spokesman further said that introduction of an ideal health delivery system is the top most priority of the present government and Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has also directed to provide better career opportunities to the young doctors and this policy is being implemented rapidly, he concluded.
