LAHO RE Around 260, 00 policemen mostly from lower ranks have been facing severe problems for the last three years due to non-functional Police Hospital situated in Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines. The top guns have turned deaf ears towards resolving this problem, because thousands of policemen of lower ranks will enjoy medical facility if the hospital starts working, said a head constable. He further told that the hospital was shutdown during the tenure of the then SP Headquarters Mirza Faraan Baig under unexplained reasons. He, however, believed sufficient funds were available with the authorities concerned. To a query, he said this was pure managerial negligence, which was being committed on top level. According to police sources, the hospital was established some 16 years back during the tenure of the then SP Headquarters Zahid Hussain. Several departments and emergency wards including VIP ward, General Ward and other wards were established in the same period, he added. According to a senior police officer, Zahid Hussain also purchased machinery and medicines worth million of rupees in order to start practice. The hospital remained in function for many years but it was shutdown during the tenure of Mirza Faraan Baig resultantly the machinery worth million of rupees has smashed into skeleton, the top cop added. The SP Headquarters Athar Waheed did not respond despite repeated phone calls by this reporter.
