Anarkali’s tomb catches fire

LAHORE – Fire erupted in the basement of Anarkali’s Tomb on Tuesday and burnt record while teams of Rescue 1122, Fire brigade and Town Municipal Administration extinguished fire.

District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal reached on the spot in no time and supervised the operation. TMO Data Ganj Baksh Town Muhammad Arif also reached along with his staff. Some officials of the secretariat were also present on the occasion. Sources in the Rescue 1122 told that at 11am fire erupted in the tomb.
The archaeological department had completed the task of repairing Anarkali’s Tomb a couple of days back. It is a building of immense historical interest. The damage began to be inflicted on the place of burial of Anarkali, which stands in the Civil Secretariat. It was later partially converted into a church, then into a records room and today still houses archives.
The renovation of resting place of Anarkali was repaired at the cost of five million rupees.
