Drug peddler sentenced for life

LAHORE - Additional District and Sessions Judge Safdar Ali Bhatti on Tuesday sentenced to life and imposed Rs1 million fine on a drug peddler. The convict will undergo another year in jail for non-payment of fine.As per details, on June 17, 2010, Inspector Ali Abbas along with other police officials had established a picket at Chowk Droghawala and they stopped a Mehran Suzuki car. On search, they confiscated 24-kg heroin, 2kg opium and 1kg hashish from the possession of the accused Shaukat Zaman. Later Bhaghbanpura police registered an FIR against the convict.The convict, on the other hand, implored the court that he was coming to Lahore to buy an auto-rickshaw but the police officials snatched cash from him.
