Unicef holds progress review meeting

LAHORE – The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and School Education Department held a progress review and follow up consultation meeting with district authorities and community as part of series of district level meeting planned after the launch of Young Champions Initiatives for Girls Education (YCIGE) project in the six selected districts in Punjab for ensuring effective implementation, ownership and sustainability at a local level.
The YCIGE, under the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI), lays emphasis on escalating the school enrolment and decreasing dropouts especially of girls of marginalised families through enrolment of out of schools children with the help of youth. The project is being implemented by Pakistan Girl Guide Association (PGGA) and Pakistan Boy Scouts Association (PBSA).
Muhammad Pervaiz Akhtar, EDO (Education) Lahore, showed keen interest in supporting the YCIGE Lahore to enrol disadvantage, marginalised out-of-school children both in formal and non-formal schools. He committed to facilitate anytime for betterment of schools.
He shared situation in improving now Lahore is at 8th place in respect of performance out of 36 districts in Punjab.
