LAHORE – Jamat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has said that PM Raja Pervez Ashraf’s statement that India could not deprive Pakistan of its river water as it did not have storage capacity showed his ignorance.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, he said the PM’s observation proved that not only he had little knowledge of the water dispute between India and Pakistan, but also that the officials of the concerned ministries were serving the Indian agenda at the cost of vital national interest.
Syed Munawar Hasan said it was a pity that the PM did not even know that India had already built 62 dams on the Pakistani rivers and was also diverting the water of river Indus through tunnels. Through this terrorism, India wanted to deprive Pakistan of every drop of water and turn this country into a desert. The Pakistani rulers did not realize the gravity of the issue and were instead of trying to satisfy the nation through false statements. He said perhaps the government was so anxious to expand trade ties with India and give it the MFN status that it was even ready to sacrifice vital national interest. He also took strong exception to the PM’s statement that Kashmiris were free to decide annexation either with Pakistan or India, saying it had hurt the sentiments of Kashmiris who had been raising slogans of” Kashmir Baney Ga Pakistan,”.
