LAHORE – Another measles-hit child died at hospital on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 12.

Fifty-three more patients were admitted to different hospitals in the City, taking the overall tally to 606. Out of 53 new patients, 18 were admitted to Children’s Hospital, 10 to Mayo Hospital, 06 to Lahore General Hospital and 03 to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital while 16 new patients were admitted to private healthcare centres in the City.
On Tuesday briefing the media about prevailing situation and the government measures to overcome the menace at committee room of Health Department, Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq said that 2,971 cases of measles had so far been reported from across the province. He said steering committee of pediatricians was meeting on regular basis.
He said that necessary arrangements have been made at government hospitals to provide treatment to measles patients.
Director General Health Dr Nisar Ahmed Cheema MMR injection has not been approved by the WHO for Pakistan. After recommendation of WHO, he said, the injection would be included in the EPI programme.
Moot: Pakistan Society of Anesthesiologists Lahore and Society for Treatment and Study of Pain will jointly organise a three day conference on anesthesia, critical care and pain management from February 15-17 at a local hotel.
Eminent anesthesiologists from all over Pakistan and abroad will participate in the conference. President of the society Prof Khalid Bashir said that the conference would provide a unique platform of learning and sharing experiences to the participants. He said that three pre conference workshops would also be arranged.
