LAHORE – Crimes Investigations Agency (CIA) police on Friday badly tortured an alleged thief, who later succumbed to police torture, sources said on Friday.
However, the police claimed that the 45-year-old accused suffered cardiac arrest during interrogation. Resident of Baghbanpura, Ameer alias Cheeta, was rushed to a local hospital after his condition got deteriorated and died at the hospital later, police said. 
According to sources, the CIA Cantonment Police arrested Ameer from Salamat Pura area. The police badly tortured him during interrogation to force him to confess the crimes, no matter he had committed or not. The man fell unconscious because of sever police torture. The police later shifted him to the Lahore General Hospital, where he died.
CIA police claimed that the accused was a notorious criminal and wanted to the police in several cases of robberies. Police also claimed that they recovered a stolen motorcycle from his passion. The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy.
The incidents of fake police encounters and custodial killings are on the rise since SP Muhammad Umar Virk, a controversial character with bad repute in the police department, has been reappointed as chief of the CIA police.
Police sources said more than seven police inspectors having bad repute in the department are running a number of private torture cells right under the nose of the SP (CIA). Virk managed to get promoted from the rank of Inspector to DSP and then SP during the past several years by using his powerful connection in the political circles of this country.
It is interesting to mention here that when former IGP Javed Iqbal had transferred Omar Virk to Southern Punjab, he propagated in the police circles that he was transferred by the CM Punjab in revenge after his brother, Ex-MNA, had joined Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf.
Found murdered: An unidentified youth was found tortured to death in Lower Mall area on Friday. Police said that the youth was lying dead with multiple injuries near Masomia graveyard as they rushed to the spot. Some passers-by spotted the dead body and contacted the police by phone. The police have removed it to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating.
