LAHORE – The City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) distributed Iftar packets among motorists and commuters on different points of the provincial capital on Tuesday.
According to the details, the packets were distributed among the public and motorists at Mozang Chowk, Chauburji, MAO College, Secretariat Chowk, PMG Chowk, Katcheri Chowk, Data Darbar Chowk, Chowk Taxali, Minar-e-Pakistan Chowk, etc.
A spokesperson said the DSPs and circular in-charges had been directed to personally supervise the arrangements of distribution. Similarly, extra duty had been deployed to regulate vehicular activities on the route of the Metro Bus System. The senior traffic wardens had also been directed to show patience and deal with the public, even violators, politely.
Similarly, the CTPL claimed to have chalked out a comprehensive plan to tackle different types of emergencies including vehicle breakdown, bumper-to-bumper movement and road blockages during rainy season.
The CTPL spokesman said a special squad comprising 600 active traffic wardens had been trained to ensure traffic regulation during rainy days. The wardens will discharge their duties under the supervision of deputy superintendent of police (DSPs). According to the plan, these wardens will immediately respond to the SOS call during the aforesaid season and will resume their duties without any delay.
“We have pointed out special low-lying areas especially Gowalmandi Chowk, Outfall Road, Safanwala Chowk, Allama Iqbal Road, Circular Road, Mozang Chowk, etc, where these wardens have been directed to discharge their duties during road blockage or the rainy season,” he stated.
Lahore CTO SSP Dr Usman Anwar said vehicle breakdown during rains causes traffic jams, which results in the blockage of the main roads of the City. “Six folk lifters, 600 traffic wardens and four DSPs have been assigned this special task; and these arrangements are being made for the first time in the history of the traffic department,” he added.
He further said instructions had been issued to divisional SPs, senior traffic wardens and circular in-charges to personally supervise the implementation of the plan. He informed that senior traffic officers would also be present on diversion points to ensure smooth traffic flow on the busiest arteries.
The citizens and motorists have been requested to call on City Traffic Police Helpline 042-1915 or listen to FM88.6 to know about the traffic situation during the rainy season.
