Resident of Johar Town, Amir Raza, riding on a car was on his way to workplace after withdrawing prize bonds worth Rs one million from the State Bank of Pakistan when two motorcyclists intercepted him in the Gowalmandi area. As the businessman tried to put up resistance, the robbers shot at and wounded and fled away after collecting the bag, containing the cash and prize bonds. The injured was rushed to the Mayo Hospital in serious condition. The police are investigating.
Armed bandits also robbed three residences in the Sundar, Shahdara Town, and Nishtar Colony police precincts and snatched away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 million after holding the family members hostage at gunpoint.
Robbers on motorcyclists looted families, passersby, and motorists at gunpoint in the Islampura, Johar Town, Muslim Town, Naseerabad, Qila Gujjar Singh and Ravi Road police areas and took away cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. Meanwhile, three cars were stolen away from Ghalib Market, Gulshan-e-Ravi and Hanjarwal police limits while five motorcycles were either stanched or stolen away from Garhi Shahu, Lower Mall, Misri Shah, Baghbanpura and Shafiqabad police precincts respectively. The police are investigating.
Man found dead: A 65-year-old man was recovered dead under mysterious circumstances from his house in the Baghbanpura area, police said on Thursday.
The man, identified as Muhammad Arshad, was rushed to a local hospital after his condition got deteriorated. The doctors pronounced the father of three as brought dead.
Muhammad Fazal told the police that his father, Arshad, had contracted two marriages. He also alleged that his stepmother poisoned his father to death. The police have shifted the body to the morgue.
BEGGARS DETAINED: City police have detained over two dozens beggars in different parts of the provincial capital, police sources claimed on Thursday. The police raided at the traffic signals and on the road in the Lower Mall, Shafiqabad, Defense, Factory Area, and North Cantonment police areas and arrested the beggars. The police have launched a crackdown on the baggers.
