LAHORE – A four member committee headed by Chief Minister’s Inspection Team Chairman Najam Saeed is likely to submit its report on possible measures to be adopted for avoiding incidents like the gutting of Neonate of Services Hospital in a couple of days, TheNation has reliably learnt.
The committee, also comprising Punjab Health Services Director General Dr Nisar Cheema and two senior professors from University of Engineering and Technology – Dr Nadeem Mufti and Dr Asghar Saqib – continued probe into the tragic incident on Friday that has so far taken lives of seven newborns besides injuring 18 including four critically.
This is fourth incident of short circuiting at Services Hospital in one year and second at Neonate. Previously, fire erupted at Intensive Care Unit, Operation Theatre and Neonate. The last incident of short circuiting caused loss to furniture and equipment while newborns at neonate were not harmed.
The committee recorded statements of administrative doctors, nurses and paramedical staff on duty besides interviewing parents of ill-fated newborns on Friday. It also examined record of patients and that relating to the maintenance of neonate.
The committee has been assigned the task of finding reasons that resulted in the gutting of neonate of Services Hospital, evaluating financial and vital losses, fixing responsibility of the incident, and giving recommendations to avoid such unfortunate happenings in future. The committee started probe on the day of the incident but is unlikely to submit report by the given deadline of Saturday because a lot of work is still to be done.
“All the record has been sealed. The committee is examining record regarding maintenance of ward and other equipment. It has also recorded statements of relevant staff and parents of newborns,” sources said. As per the insiders, the committee will submit its findings in a couple of days.
Meanwhile, public sector hospitals have provided necessary equipment such as incubators, phototherapy units and baby carts to make neonate of Services Hospital functional.
Of the four incubators, Mayo Hospital has provided two and Mian Munshi Hospital and Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital one each.
