Drug Free Day to be observed today

LAHORE - Drug Free City Project Director Altaf Qamar has said that October 9 will be observed as an awareness day against devastations of drugs in City, under the auspices of Drug Free City Project which is a joint project of Punjab government and the federal government.
The administration of Drug Free City Project in collaboration with concerned NGOs, would distribute awareness literature about devastations of drugs among the general public at 25 locations of Lahore.
He further said that devastations of drugs in Pakistan is no less as compared to the rest of the world. According to an estimate, more than 90 lakh persons have become addicts in Pakistan, whereas five lakh persons are increasing every year. Among these addicts, 80 lakh persons whose ages are between 15 to 64 years (the youth and able bodied persons) are becoming disable due to drugs. Altaf Qamar said that if the society did not realize the gravity of the situation, the condition would become even more precarious in coming days. He said it is the need of the hour that every person of the society ought to play its role to control the drug menace at all cost.
Project Director informed that the places where public awareness literature would be distributed include: Yuhana Abad at 3:00pm, Sadar Bazaar 12:30pm, Harbanspura, Lalpul 10:00am, Quaid-e-Azam Library 4:00pm, Allama Iqbal Road Garhi Shahu 1:00pm, Jail Road 9:00am, Bhati Chowk 11:00am, Anarkali Bazaar 10:00am, Rang Mahal and Lohari Gate 3:00pm, Lari Adda 12:00 Noon, Railway Station 11:00am, Shahdra More 10:00am, Ravi Road 9:00am, Badami Bagh 11:00am, Model Town Link Road 9:00am, Qurtaba Chowk and Shadman Chowk 10:00am, Gulberg 10:00am, Moon Market Allama Iqbal Town 10:00am, Samanabad More 10:00am, Wahdat Road Muslim Town 9:00am, Shera Kot 12:00 Noon, Multan Road 11:00am, DHA 10:00am, Johar Town, Township 12:00 Noon and Chouburji, Samanabad Chowk at 11:00am.
