According to the budget documents, an amount of Rs1, 985 million has been earmarked for one ongoing schemes and Rs8, 015 millions for four new energy schemes.
By establishing a new Punjab Energy Department, the government had allocated Rs9billion for the energy sector in last year budget. It is worth mentioning here that under the 18th amendment, the federal government has empowered provinces to initiate up to 50MW power generation projects. The newly establishment department, however, has not produced a single unite electricity in one year. The provincial government claim that federal government and its energy department’s unwilling to cooperate with Punjab is the reason behind the slow pace of work of Energy Department.
