LAHORE – Conceding that his party had failed to overcome the energy crisis, PPP Secretary General Senator Jehangir Badr said on Sunday that the government could not cope with the huge increase in the demand for electricity that was quite unexpected.
Addressing a reception held in his honour at the Kot Lakhpat fruit market, Badr acknowledged that the federal govt had failed to make any significant addition to the existing capacity of power generation.
The PPP leader attributed the energy crisis to frequent power thefts and high population growth rate. He, however, said that the PPP government was not solely responsible for the shortage of electricity. “The Musharraf government also did not produce a single megawatt of electricity.”
