LAHORE - In a bid to pose itself a mainstream party, the PML-Q leadership on Thursday made dozens of nominations for various party offices in Punjab in a single go. The nominations for several provincial party offices and districts were made by the PML-Q Punjab president, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi who issued letters to the nominated offices-bearers.
The PML-Q, that had lost many of its heavyweights to the PML-N after the 2008 General Elections and remaining to the PTI after Imran Khan’s Minar-e-Pakistan show, direly needs to pose itself a party of the main political arena, especially ahead of the local bodies’ polls which are expected by the end of this year. The haphazard manner of nominating office-bearers for the entire province puts a question mark.
The PML-Q’s meeting under the name of reorganising the party gave the impression that dozens of students who didn’t get certificate from other political colleges gathered at the Muslim League House to receive the same from Chaudhry of Gujrat. When contacted, PML-Q senior leader Raja Basharat maintained, “The exercise is a part of reorganising the party in Punjab and it is successfully completed.”
When asked about nominations instead of intra-party polls, he claimed, “The party constitution empowers the president to nominate any office-bearer whether at provincial or district level.” The nominated office-bearers included Seemal Kamran as Punjab secretary information, Muhammad Basharat Raja as Punjab senior vice president while Rana Zahid Tauseef, Malik Iqbal Ahmad Langrial, Mian Muhammad Munir, Mian Imran Masood, Ali Asjad Malhi, Sardar Waqas Hassan Moakal and Ghias Ahmad Mela as vice presidents.
The nominated district leaders included Malik Riazuddin Awan, Amir Sultan Cheema, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Riaz Asghar Chaudhry, Azeem Noori Ghumman, Ansar Baryaar, Col. (R) MAbbas, Yousuf Ahad Malik, Sardar Asif Nakai, Jehan Zaib Moakal, Rai M Aslam Kharal, Ahmad Shah Khagga, Pir Ali Zaib Chishti and M Khan Leghari.
Addressing the meeting participants, Elahi claimed that the PML-Q candidates were defeated through rigging in the general elections on May 11. He said that lot of cases of rigging would surface if the verification of votes was carried out through thumb impression in Punjab as well.
He demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan to exercise its powers and conduct the delimitation process for the local bodies’ polls. He maintained the PML-N legislators are getting delimitation of their choice through officers of district administration concerned.
Criticising the government for power loadshedding, Elahi remarked that the month of October looks like June due to the unprecedented power outages. He said the rulers were making mockery of the people in the name of mechanical tandoors and sasti roti. He added that the rulers have no vision for putting the province and the entire country on the road to progress.
The PML-Q Punjab president, condemning the incident of bomb explosion at Food Street, Old Anarkali, expressed condolences with the families of the affected.
