On the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for Higher Education Punjab said that Punjab government would try its level best to act upon all the recommendations set by the conference.
Co-convener Dr Ahmar Mahboob from the University of Sydney presented “The Lahore Declaration”, recommendations of the conference. He said that the importance of language lies in its role as one of the primary semiotic processes through which we construe and project realities. “Language is the basis of human interaction and development,” he said.
The conference was concluded with the recommendations to set up independent departments of (applied) linguistics (not embedded in English or other language programs), to develop research on local languages, to develop policies and pedagogies that were multilingual oriented and others. Dr Angel Lin of the University of Hong Kong presented the paper on “Asia as Method: Postcolonial epistemologies and implications for linguistics and education Research.”
Dr John Gibbons of University of Sydney, Australia presented his work on “A technique for revealing the Language Demands Made by School Textbooks”.
Dr Tariq Rehman of BNU presented his paper “The politics of Naming the case of Urdu”

PU issues date sheet: Punjab University Examinations Department has issued written, practical and oral examination date sheet for the 2nd year B.Sc Nursing (4-years progarmme) supplementary 2012 and a notification of commencement date of 1st and 3rd semester (re-sit) examination 2012 of BS 4-year programme has also been issued.
