Nauman Qureshi wins LBA crown


LAHORE – Nauman Qureshi of the Asma Jahangir group won the top slot of Lahore Bar Association (LBA) on Saturday, defeating Ch Muhammad Ishtiaq.
According to unofficial results, Qureshi bagged 2411 votes while Ishtiaq got 2138 votes.
Supreme Court Bar Association President Mian Israrul Haq; Pakistan Bar Council members Azam Nazir Tarar and former LHC Judge Ahsan Bhoon; and Lahore High Court Bar Association President Shehram Sarwar were his chief supporters.
People’s Lawyers Forum led by Sardar Latif Khan Khosa and a faction of the PML-N lawyers also announced their support for Mr Qureshi, who was testing his luck for the second time. Incumbent LBA president Chaudhry Zulfiqar had defeated him last year.
Nauman Qureshi is a member of the Punjab Bar Council.
While Mian Shahzad and Tauqeer Sadiq grabbed the two vice president seats in the LBA elections. Lahore Bar Association (LBA) members also elected their cabinet for the year 2013-14. Over 12,000 voters exercised their right of vote in the polling held at Sessions Court from 9am to 5pm with one-hour break for prayers and lunch.
Chaudhry Ishtiaq was a candidate of the Professional Group, led by Hamid Khan.
