LAHORE – Punjab Public Accounts Committee-1 (PAC-1) has directed the authorities concerned to hold an immediate inquiry into provision of funds amounting to Rs11 million by Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan, to a private contractor as advance without asking bank guarantee.
The committee also directed to submit the report of the incident within one month by identifying the responsible. The meeting of the PAC-1 was held on Thursday to review the audit paras of Higher Education Department (2006-7) with Chaudhary Zaheer-ud-Din, chairman of the committee, in the chair.
The chairman asked the Bahauddin Zakariya University vice chancellor about his resolve to recover the university funds given without guarantee to a private contractor as advance.
In his reply, the vice chancellor said the university had sought relief from court against the contractor company. Zaheer snubbed the vice chancellor and said that a blunder had already been committed.
