RE - Former federal minister Sartaj Aziz has said that Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar was embodiment of sincerity, honesty and simplicity and let us pray to Almighty Allah to bestow such leaders to us.
He was speaking on the 111th birth anniversary of Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar organised by Nazria Pakistan Trust in collaboration with Tehrik-e-Pakistan Workers Trust at Aiwan-e-Karkunan Tehrik-e-Pakistan on Saturday. Sartaj Aziz said that the greatest feat of Nishtar was to set up Muslim League in Khyber Pk in 1931 where Reds had influence. He represented the province in ML meeting of 1940. He said Sardar Abdu Rab Nishtar was the first person who pointed out that Gen Ayub Khan was taking interest in politics and often used to say if military intervened the country will break up which later came true.
Sartaj Aziz said Sardar Nishtar lived in a small rental house and died in the same house. He never accepted any monetary assistance for treatment of his illness. His simplicity, honesty and integrity despite being a federal minister and Governor was an example for others.
Majid Nizami who presided the meeting said that Sardar Nishtar worked for Muslim League in NWFP which is now Khyber Pk and a person not less than Nawaz Sharif has also given his stamp on which he made a protest and will continue to demand to take his stamp back and even the souls of those who have expired would not be happy.
Nizami said Sardar Nishtar led a simple life. As Governor he was often seen on The Mall walking on foot and walking at Jinnah Garden where he often met common people. We need such rulers. The person in Salman Taseer is now sitting in Governor House who often fights for bullet-proof car with Sharifs. He said the task which Sarhandi Gandhi could not perform, was accomplished by his grandsons on which Reds souls are happy.
Grandson of Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar and President Khushkhali Bank, Ghalib Nishtar said that Sardar Nishtar lived ten years after creation of Pakistan but his associates died soon. He was against provincialism. He thanked Majid Nizami for regularly holding meetings on luminaries of Pakistan.
Dr Rafique Ahmad said that no future planning can be done by forgetting the past and it was for this reason that NPT remember the past. Syed Ahmad Saeed Kirmani said that according to Sardar Nishtar, nationalism/ patriotism and lust for wealth cannot go together and this he proved with his character. Brig (r) Zafar Iqbal said Sardar Nishter believed that Kashmir could only be liberated through bullets and not talks.
Dr MA Soofi said that Nishtar worked hard to strengthen Muslim League as the strong and united League was the custodian of Pakistan. Dr Parveen Khan said that Sardar Nishtar had command over English, Urdu, Pashto, Persian and other languages. He was generous and honest. He was laid to rest at Mazar-e-Quaid on the advice of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah. Later a birthday cake was cut.
