The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Umer Ata Bandial Wednesday said it’s hard to believe that the president can also violate the constitution. The remarks came during the hearing of a petition relating to the holding of dual offices by President Asif Ali Zardari. The chief justice said that it is evident that the president hasn’t left his political post. However, it is not clear whether he holds his party meetings at the Presidency or not. He said implementation of court orders is the responsibility of administration, adding that the president is expected to respect the court’s verdict and didn’t challenge it. He said the court expected that the President do away with his dual role, but did not ordered the president to do so. Therefore, he said, the question of contempt of court does not arise as such. The hearing of the case was adjourned till June 16.
