The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader and former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Aitzaz Ahsan on Saturday said that President Asif Ali Zardari has full immunity under Article 248 of the constitution.
Talking to media persons here in Lahore, he said that Article 248 of the Constitution did not allow any court to initiate proceedings against the president.

To a question, Aitzaz Ahsan said that all the six options in NRO implementation verdict of the five-member bench of the Supreme Court have advices for the larger bench of the apex court and not for the government.
He said that he has submitted an application to the party for Senate seat, adding that he wants to become only the senator which will be a honour for him, and there was no other aim for submitting application for Senate elections.
The PPP leader said that he was not acting as a mediator between the executive and the judiciary or between the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
He said that the movement for the impeachment of the president is constitutional.
Ahsan further said that if the prime minister or the president were to be removed constitutionally, no harm would come to democracy. He said that democracy is only threatened by extra constitutional steps.
Responding to a question regarding the defence secretary’s sacking, the PPP leader said Khalid Naeem Lodhi could approach the courts to challenge his termination.
He said that the prime minister was empowered to sack anyone from his team because Khalid Naeem was appointed by the premier.
