LAHORE – A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the press conference of real estate tycoon Malik Riaz where he gave derogatory remarks against Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary.
Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Mohal filed the petition on Wednesday and submitted that Malik Riaz tried to blackmail and scandalise the judiciary. The petitioner said the statement of the respondent that son of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, Dr Arsalan Iftikhar was working as ‘DON’ for controlling and holding the whole judiciary.
The respondent attacked on the great institution of the state by using the word ‘yarghamali judiciary’, he said.
The petitioner further said the words, remarks and tone of the respondent during the press conference was highly contemptuous against the superior judiciary. He requested the court to convict him and award him sentence for committing contempt of court. Petitioner said the judiciary was impartial, honest and playing an effective role against malpractices and corruption and illegal actions of the most influential person in the country.
