LAHO RE The Pakistan Medical Association Punjab has announced to observe a two-hours token strike at all hospitals across the province on Wednesday and Thursday and a full day strike on Friday if FIR against five doctors of Sheikh Zayed Hospital was not withdrawn within 48 hours. However, ICUs, CCUs and emergencies will work as per routine during strike to provide medical treatment to critical patients. The PMA officerbearers made this announcement after provincial council meeting chaired by Dr Ashraf Nizami at PMA House on Sunday. Officebearers of 36 branches of PMA Punjab participated in the meeting. Senior consultants from various public sector hospitals including Sheikh Zayed Hospital also attended the meeting. Giving details of the meeting, the PMA officebearers said that the participants demanded dismissal of the police officer who registered an FIR against doctors in the presence of Health Care Commission Act 2010. They also urged the administration of SZH to register an FIR against people who attacked the hospital and harassed the staff. The PMA officebearers further added that for the last 17 days, the doctors of SZH were on strike but the government was not making any effort to resolve the issue.
