LAHORE – Twenty more Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees have been allegedly involved in fake attendance marking scam while an inquiry is already underway against former Deputy Station Manager Tariq Majeed for remaining absent from duty and managing his attendance through a daily wages worker, sources in the airlines said on Thursday.PIA management asked the Lahore station manager to start an inquiry against Tariq Majeed for remaining absent from duty. Tariq, who used to visit the office off and on, had handed over his office card to daily wages worker Ghulam Jillani for managing his attendance for the past 11 months, reports said. A PIA officer complained to the management and brought the matter to its notice. The management assigned the inquiry to Station Manager Manzoor Junior to find the facts. Sources claimed that the inquiry officer summoned Jillani and questioned him. The daily wages worker told the inquiry officer that Tariq had given him two office cards for marking the attendance. Jillani also handed over the two cards to the inquiry officer. The sources claimed that Jillani also submitted an affidavit to the inquiry officer that Tariq had given him two cards and asked him to mark his attendance daily. Possession of two office cards was an offence parallel to cheating and fraud, said a law officer in the PIA. Manzoor Junior after completion of inquiry sent his report to PIA head office. In the light of inquiry report, Director Airport Services, Mazhar Kiyani assigned the investigation to Manager Works, Col (R) Akhtar to look into the matter and report. As per development of inquiry, Tariq has asked Ghulam Jillani to disappear from the scene so that he might not produce any evidence against him. The sources disclosed that Tariq himself proceeded on sick leave for three days only to avoid appearance before the inquiry committee. Interestingly, he did not produce any medical certificate in the office till Wednesday.
