IGP wakes up to use of mobile phones in jails

LAHORE – Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Habibur Rehman has asked the Prison authorities to launch a crackdown on the use of mobile phones in jails across the province. Officials said on Thursday that the provincial police chief wrote a letter to Prison IG Farooq Nazir and suggested that prisoners found involved in using cellular phones inside the jails should be taken to task. They said that the letter was written after the police investigators noted in their observations that some hardcore criminals demanded extortion from businessmen via mobile phone calls from the jails. Transferred: The IGP ordered transfers/postings of following seven police officers. DG Khan SP (Legal) Qaisar Ali Sheikh has been transferred and posted as Gujranwala SP (CIA) and Gujranwala CIA SP Muhammad Shafique Gujjar has been transferred and posted as SP Legal, PTS in Farooqabad while Javaid Iqbal, Sargodha City Circle SDPO has been transferred and posted as SP (Investigations) in Sargodha. Yahya Hassan Virk, awaiting posting, has been posted as SP Special Branch Punjab.
