LAHORE – The PML-N has called for the immediate announcement of the elections date as a matter of removing confusion.
Party sources say that party President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif despite grieved on the demise of their younger brother, were fully in touch with the situation brewing on the political landscape. The party leaders have also considered the situation after forming a four-member committee by the Federal Government for negotiation and nominated Senator Ishaq Dar to enter talks with the government team on the matters of next elections. Sources say that after the initial homework is completed with Ishaq Dar, opposition leader Ch Nisar Khan would be apprised of the outcome and the formal negotiations would be kickstarted through Ch Nisar. Sources say that Ch Nisar was willing to talk to the government after elections date was announced and the assemblies were dissolved. At this stage, talks on simultaneously holding elections of the National Assembly and the Provincial Assemblies in the four provinces have been completed and a consensus reached on it. Now the PML-N was stressing on the government for announcing the election date.
Sources further said that before declaring Governor Rule in Balochistan, the Prime Minister through a telephone contacted Nawaz Sharif and took him into confidence. They said that the PML-N also wanted proper measure in the province after the situation had aggravated to an alarming extent.
PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is also planned to visit Quetta on Tuesday (today) to express sympathies with the Hazara people on the killing of their kith and kin.
Meanwhile, Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that announcement of the date of general elections was essential, before announcing the caretaker setup.
While talking to media Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that, after announcing the date of elections, the government should announce caretaker prime minister in accordance with the constitution, with mutual consultation between the leader of the opposition and leader of the house. He said this step was the requirement of the constitution, which must be fulfilled in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that PML-N believes in the policy of consultation. He said the leader of the opposition Ch Nisar had even consulted the political parties, which were not a part of the parliament, during the process of nomination of members of Election Commission. He said even now the leader of opposition would carry out such consultation and, when the name would be proposed, the consultations would be made with all political parties, which were taking part in the general elections.
In response to another question, Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that the opinion of Nawaz Sharif was not included in the promulgation of Governor Rule in Balochistan. He said Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was only informed about promulgation of Governor Rule in Balochistan. He said that it would be closely observed as to what impact the Governor Rule would have. He said neither we support the Governor Rule in Balochistan, nor do we oppose it.
