Punjab Sports Board Chairman MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony, to be held on Sunday. The event also features vibrant and thrilling events including Ministerial Staff Race, Naib Qasid Race, Boy’s Four-Legged Race, Cricket Ball Throw (girls), Pillow Fighting, Staff Children Race, Wheel-Barrow Race, Old Ravians 60-Meter Race, Stilt Race, Sack Race, Gymnastic Display, Obstacle Race, Musical Chair (ladies), Staff Members Handicap Race, Male Staff Race, Female Staff Race and Old Ravians Handicap Race.
The tug-of-war between Old Ravians and GCU Sports Board is likely to be the most thrilling event of the sports gala.
Meanwhile, Punjab University Hailey College of Commerce organised its annual convocation on Wednesday. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over the ceremony while Hamza Shahbaz was the chief guest on the occasion.
The ceremony was also attended by MPA Khawaja Imran Nazir, College Principal Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, senior faculty members and a large number of graduating students and their parents.
Addressing the ceremony, Hamza Shahbaz said it was of immense pleasure day for graduating students that they had completed their degrees but they should not forget their parents and teachers who had prayed and worked hard in this regard. He said we had spent US $10 billion in war on terror during recent years but we could not control the circumstances. He said if this amount had been spent on youth then conditions would have been other wise. He said the country had been facing serious and difficult issues but it was also the fact that there was solution of all these problems. He said Pakistan’s energy need was 18 to 20 thousand megawatt. “The Balochistan is rich in energy reservoirs and coal reservoirs of the country are enough to meet energy demand for 200 years”, he added. He said Pakistan is at number three in coal reservoirs, fourth in cotton production and fifth in gold and copper reservoirs. The only issue was sincerity of purpose.
He said corruption was eating up the resources of country and Wapda and PIA were badly affected by corruption. He said we should call the engineers working abroad and provide them facilities and appoint them heads of institutions. He said US President contacted five times when atomic experiments were taken but we carried out five experiments against four of India. He also announced to talk to Chief Minister for allocation of Rs 100 million for construction of multi-purpose hall at the college. He also informed the participants about the government’s measures of 4000 IT labs, PEEF, scholarships, establishment of hospitals in Lahore, Gawalmandi Degree College for Women and distribution of laptops.
In his address, Dr Mujahid Kamran congratulated the students and complemented their parents and teachers. He stated that the subjects taught at the college had deep relevance to the economy of the nation and to the global scenario. He called upon the outgoing students to make it a goal of their life to excel in financial knowledge with the object of liberating humanity from the clutches of the inhuman One World cabal.
Earlier, Hamza Shahbaz and Dr Mujahid Kamran distributed medals among the position-holders.
