LAHORE – JAM SAJJAD HUSSAIN - The lack of a centralised traffic licensing system has handcuffed the Traffic Authorities of the country as violators get new licenses from other districts in case their licenses are suspended, said Chief Traffic Officer Captain (retd) Syed Ahmed Mobin.
Lack of acceptance of Traffic Enforcement by public and motorists, the lack of countrywide awareness campaigns and insufficient fines, are other reasons behind frequent traffic accidents, which claim hundreds of precious lives across the country every year. The CTO, who commands the City’s traffic police force comprising over 3,400 personnel, expressed these views during a brief chat with this reporter at his office.
SSP Syed Ahmed Mobin, said that each district has its own licensing branch which makes it easy for the violators to obtain new licenses from other districts. “We need to centralise this system like developed countries besides increasing amount of fine against violators,” he stated.
Talking about a MoU regarding Turkish transport system, he believed the system will revolutionise the traffic setup of the Provincial Capital. The CTO expressed hope that the Intelligence Transport System, Parking Management System and Fleet Management System will help in controlling traffic, as well as bring down the number of road accidents. 
Sharing his views about the working of Fleet Management System, CTO said that around 1100 tracking devices will be installed to monitor the patrolling vehicles of the Operations Police of Lahore, CTPL vehicles, Solid Waste Management vehicles, Rescue-1122 vans, Fire Brigades, Civil Aviation vehicles and other departments.
