The tour was led by faculty members Shafiq Ahmad Kamboh and Naveed Iqbal Chaudry. The visitors were received at the Pattoki institute by Chief Research Officer Dr Tasneem Akhtar and Livestock Department Communication and Extension Programme Director Dr Israr Hussain.
In Okara, they were welcomed by Director Dr Fiaz Ahmad who told them about the Punjab government’s vision regarding the livestock potential.
The students were provided with an opportunity to interact with the farmers to evaluate the efficacy of communication tools and materials of the proposed strategy.
The faculty members proposed a model ‘FM Radio Initiative for Farmers’ to further enhance the vision of the Punjab government.
They suggested that like the laptop scheme, each farmer should be provided with an FM radio after establishing a specialised FM station for farmers to educate them.
The team thanked Punjab Livestock Secretary Irfan Elahi and Dr Israr Hussain for arranging such an educational trip and emphasised the need for more study tours.
