7 including detainee killed in City

LAHORE – At least seven people died, including one in police custody, in different areas of the City on Friday. Police sources said that 30-year-old Sajid alias Ganga was tortured to death by SI Abdul Ghafoor of Liaqatabad police.
The deceased was imprisoned on charges of theft, but the aforesaid cop got his two-day remand from the court for interrogation. “Sajid was tortured to death by the investigation wing on the pressure of our opponents,” one of his relatives told reporters.
Minutes after the bereaved family learned about the death of Sajid in police custody, the family members along with residents staged a massive protest demonstration against Liaqatabad police. Police concerned, however, maintained that the deceased was suffering a fatal disease and termed it a natural death. Later, the body was removed to the City morgue for autopsy to ascertain the main cause of his death.
Similarly, two people, Mukhtaran Bibi and Muhammad Nazim, of rival groups were gunned down during cross-firing in the Harbanspura police area. Police said Khaleel group and Tufail group of the Qalandarpur area had been running old enmity since long.
On the day of the incident, Mukhtaran Bibi, mother of Khaleel, snubbed a mazda driver to avoid parking the vehicle in front of her door, but reportedly he misbehaved with the woman. Meanwhile, the armed men from both sides assembled at the scene and exchanged hot words, which resulted in cross-firing.
Resultantly, Mukhtaran Bibi, her son Khaleel and their opponent Nazim sustained multiple bullet injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced Nazim and Mukhtaran as dead. Police have booked several members from both sides with no arrest until the filing of this report.
Likewise, two unidentified youth drowned in the Canal near Jallo Mor on Friday, triggering panic among the residents over the tragic incident. Quoting the statements of the passerby, police said that a boy along with his 10-year-old neighbour was swimming when they drowned all of sudden in the Canal. Resuce 1122 teams were searching for the bodies with no positive result until midnight.
Muhammad Rafiq, a worker, succumbed to injuries while his colleague was injured when the roof of an under construction home collapsed in the Shahdara police area. The incident took place at Nain-Sukh Chowk. The body was removed to the City morgue.
Likewise, 28-year-old youth Muhammad Waseem was crushed to death by a speeding mazda in the Model Town area. As per reports, the deceased of Rajgarh was on his way when his bike slipped and was crushed by the mazda from the rear side. Resultantly, Waseem sustained multiple injuries and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced as dead.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old unidentified youth was gunned down by his rivals in the Manawan police area.
