National grid poorer by 900MW

September 16, 2012

LAHORE – An additional shortfall of 900MW struck the national grid station that has already fallen short of 4,000MW, said an official.
This shortfall was because of the technical fault in two units of the Jamshoro Thermal Power Plant, the official said. He maintained that units 1 and 2 of the plant stopped generation because of the technical problem, while units 3 and 4 had already been closed.
He, however, added that the two units would resume generation until Sunday (today) morning. The main shortfall is because of the halt in fuel supply to independent power producers (IPPs) and Wapda-owned Gencos, said the official, adding that overall 12-hours loadshedding was being conducted by the power distribution companies excluding the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC). The official claimed that the shortfall would decrease in the days to come.
