LAHORE (PR) – The Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre is launching the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2012 from Monday (tomorrow).

This campaign includes sessions by oncologists on breast cancer awareness in colleges and universities in all major cities including Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujrat, Jhelum, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Karachi and Hyderabad, as well as in Gulf as countries.
The drive will focus on female students to educate them about breast cancer, its causes, indications and symptoms, prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer all over Asia because pf which every year 40,000 women die.
One of every nine women in Pakistan faces risk of the disease while the prevalence of this deadly ailment is the highest amongst all types of cancers in the country – 38.5 per cent. This issue can be addressed by raising awareness since, because of lack of awareness about breast cancer in Pakistan, this treatable disease is usually detected at advanced stages when nothing could turn its course. Oncologists, specialists, consultants and celebrities have joined the Centre in this cause.
