LAHORE – The current spell of horrible loadshedding which was touching 16 hours in a day in some parts of country will end in the first week of February, an official of National Power Control Centre (NPCC) told TheNation on Monday.

NPCC GM Masood Akhtar held that the decrease in hydel generation was the main reason behind the loadshedding. He said that canal closure period was continuing and IRSA reduced the outflow of water from dams.
“Hopefully, we will start getting above 3,000MW electricity from hydel power stations after two weeks and successfully bridge the current shortages,” said Masood Akhtar.
He said that NPVV was facing 3,000MW shortfall and it was getting mere 600 megawatt hydel generation, he added. According to him, GENCOs were generating 2,000MW, IPPs 7,000MW while RPPs were sharing 100MW with the national grid.
