Gov lauds parties’ unison on democracy

LAHORE-Punjab Governor Makhdum Ahmad Mahmud has expressed his contentment on pro-democracy demeanor of all political parties in the wake of imminent danger to the present system.
“The fact that all the major political parties are united in the belief that they will not let any undemocratic or external force hamper the democratic system of the country is quite encouraging”, the governor said in a press statement on Wednesday.
Makhdum said that firm commitment on the part of political parties that they will not permit a handful of undemocratic forces to hijack the upcoming general elections, was a clear message for those trying to derail the system.
The governor appreciated the way the major political forces got united under a single platform and termed the political gathering at Raiwind a good omen for future of democracy.
The governor said all undemocratic and disruptive elements attempting to hamper the upcoming general election will surely be defeated.
“All political parties are in agreement that general elections must be held in the stipulated time and they are making preparations to field their candidates.”, he said.
Mehmud has also appealed to the people of Pakistan to support the democratic forces to maintain supremacy of the Constitution which would in turn pave the way for a more prosperous Pakistan. He asserted that a handful of undemocratic forces could not be allowed to destabilize country’s constitutional, political and administrative system. “Such elements must keep in mind that 180 million people of Pakistan will decide their country’s future by the power of their votes”, he averred.
