LAHORE - Thousands of charged protesters on Sunday demanded death to the director and cast of a blasphemous movie against Islam, besides cutting diplomatic and economic ties with the US.
Under the aegis of Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD), the huge Hurmat-e-Rasool (Prophet’s honour) march of Tehreek-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool (THR) started from Nila Gumbad and concluded at Masjid-i-Shuhada at The Mall (road). Scores of students, lawyers and traders also participated in the demonstration.
The protesters raised slogans against the US, India and Israel and vowed to sacrifice their lives for the honour of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). They chanted ‘Death to the blasphemers at any cost’ and ‘Jihad is the only way to counter the sacrilegious actions of non-believers’.
The leaders of various religious parties, which are part of the THR, on the occasion announced to summon an all parties conference (APC) to devise a joint strategy to counter attacks on the Prophet of Islam and their religion.
They said that they would invite President Asif Zardari, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, JUI-F head Fazlur Rehman, PTI Chairman Imran Khan and all other leaders to this moot. However, they said, they would continue countrywide protests and Hurmat-e-Rasool rallies in the meanwhile.
The prominent leaders who participated in the demonstration included JuD chief Prof Hafiz Saeed, PML-Zia chief Ijazul Haq, Abdul Rehman Makki, Ibtesam Elahi Zaheer, Ameer Hamza, Zawar Bahadur, Abdul Ghaffar Ropari, Amjad Khan, Qari Yaqoob, Pir Saifullah Khalid, Hafiz Muhammad Masood, Asim Makhdom, Talha Saeed, Khalid Waleed, Saifullah Mansoor and Idrees Farooqi.
Hafiz Saeed in his address demanded immediate hanging of all those involved in making of the sacrilegious movie. He proposed for making an international law to punish the culprits of blasphemy against all the prophets with death. He said that the THR would soon summon an APC and invite all the leaders of the political parties, and their participation or absence would establish as to who among them were true believers.
The JuD leader demanded the government tell the US administration that none of their missions could be allowed to work until the hanging of the blasphemers. He warned that Muslims across the world would wage a Jihad against the Crusaders and the Jewish terrorists if they continued their drive to defame the Prophet of Islam. Saeed claimed that Hilary Clinton lied when she said that making this film was the sole idea of Terry Jones, as the Pope and the entire European world were backing Jones.
Ijazul Haq said that Muslims possess all kind of resources but they failed to respond to the blasphemous actions each time because the Qibla (source of power) of their leaders was Washington rather than Mecca. He said that the oil and nuclear weapons were of no use to the Muslim world if they cannot protect the Hurmat-e-Rasool.
Ijaz remarked that all the Muslim rulers by failing to safeguard the Hurmat-e-Rasool have become ‘poodles’ (a type of fashion dogs) of the US. He said that they would launch a long march if the government failed to send the US ambassador back in the next few days.
Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki said that Jihad has to be launched against the blasphemers, besides sending back the US emissaries from the country. He added that Jihad was the only tool to counter the sacrilegious actions of the non-believers. He appealed to all the Muslim nations to jointly reply to the blasphemous actions.
JUP General Secretary Qari Zawar Bahadur said that the US was heading towards third world war, while sacrilegious films were being made after the coalition forces’ defeat in Afghanistan. He demanded that Terry Jones and his accomplices should be handed over to the Muslims otherwise Ben Ghazi-like incidents would continue to occur.
Hafiz Ibtesam Elahi Zaheer, Nazim-e-Ala of Jamiat Ahle Hadith, said that it was written in the history that all the blasphemers of the Prophets of Islam were sent to hell by the believers. He said that no Muslim feels any fear of all the US military might when there is a question of honour of the Prophet (PBUH).
Ibtesam questioned Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif for their ‘balanced’ tone against the US over the issue of sacrilegious film. Abdul Ghaffar Ropari, chief of Jamat Ahle Hadith Pakistan, said that all the Muslim nations were united against the sacrilegious actions and the sons of Islam were ready to launch a war against the blasphemers.
Maulana Amjad Khan, central spokesman of JUI-S, said that the entire nation along with the religious parties was on the streets against this act of blasphemy. He said that Nawaz Sharif, President Zardari, Altaf Hussain and Asfand Yar Wali should also join the people against this most serious issue.
THR Convener Maulana Ameer Hamza said that Hilary Clinton said that she condemned the action of Terry Jones but he was completely free to do whatever he likes. He said that the America has declared its position regarding the blasphemous film and now the THR would make clear its policy by hacking the heads of the blasphemers. Hamza said that an Indian major in Held Kashmir aired the sacrilegious film and this blasphemy would be avenged.
Hafiz Saif Ullah Mansoor, chief of Tehrik-e-Azadi Jammu Kashmir, said that the sons of the Ummah took to the streets in the entire Muslim world against the blasphemous actions of the non-believers and they would not rest till sending the blasphemers to hell. Pir Saifullah Khalid, chief of Jamiat Mashaikh Azam, said that the only target of the rulers was to prolong their rule.
