LAHORE - Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has said a major headway is expected after Ramazan on holding general elections in the country.
Speaking to media at the Punjab Assembly here Tuesday, Rana said that the time to hold general elections would be disturbed if the Local Bodies polls are held now. Local Government elections would be held six months after the general elections.
Without undermining the value of the Local Body polls to run the system smoothly, he said change comes through the general elections and not through the Local Bodies as such general elections are a pressing need of the hour. Answering a question, the law minister vindicated the impartiality and fairness of the newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Fakharuddin G Ebrahim. In reply to a question he said that Prime Minister’s Adviser on Interior Rehman Malik was to blame for the unrest and brutal killings going on in Karachi. He blamed Malik and called him inefficient in handling the Karachi situation properly. He said Malik was ready to flee the country at any time. As to the charges that Punjab govt was encouraging terrorist organisations, he strongly denied the allegations.
