LAHORE – The Punjab Assembly session on Tuesday turned rowdy when the opposition alleged the chief minister facilitating his relative to get the tender of Lahore Meat Complex project.
Opposition member, Shaukat Basra on a point of order quoting a report accused the chief minister of carrying out nepotism for awarding the Rs 1.5 billion Lahore Meat Complex project tender to his relative.
In reply, Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah used strong words against the opposition member, while Basra termed the Chief Minister House as ‘marriage club’.
Rana Sana asked the opposition to bring the matter into the House in writing and he would establish the opposition allegations false, as quoting mere a news report was not sufficient.
Ali Haider Noor Niazi taking the floor said that Basra should at least correct his information about the name of Chief Minister’s relative to whom he was alleging for getting the stated project to take the debate further. However, Basra continued his one-sided talk, while Niazi had also kept on talking and in the meantime Rana Arshad jumped into the debate and with the sloganeering on both side of the political divide virtually turned the atmosphere of the House ugly.
The House had witnessed the wave of calm at the break of Zohr prayers when the provincial law minister while claiming that Punjab government was not involved in any corruption offered the opposition to bring the matter in the house in written following the rules and procedures. Basra earlier also appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to form a commission to probe the corruption of billions of rupees. He said the real face of the PML-N top leadership had been exposed to the masses due to their double face, while Rana Sanaullah had become the powerful don of the province.
Meanwhile, treasury member Mian Muhammad Rafique raised the issue of Indian water aggression against Pakistan and Islamabad’s poor response in this regard, however the issue was pended.
He said that India was committing water aggression against Pakistan by building dams on our waters, while the ex-chief of Indus Basin Project, Jamaat Ali Shah had played a dubious role during his tenure on the issue.
Sheikh Allauddin through an adjournment motion alleged that Jamaat Ali Shah left the country very after his retirement, which established his suspicious role over the Indian water terrorism.
Minority member, Najmi Saleem, through a resolution proposed naming an airbase after the late hero of defence of Pakistan, Group Captain (Retd) Cecil Chaudhary to pay tribute to his services for the country, while the resolution was adopted unanimously.
Provincial law minister, Rana Sana Ullah told the house that a copy of this resolution had already been sent to the Air headquarters and the authorities concerned would take a decision in this regard at an appropriate time.
Moreover, PML-Q parliamentary leader in Punjab Assembly Chaudhary Zaheer-ud-Din has submitted an adjournment motion in Punjab Assembly terming the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) of the government just wastage of the national exchequer and an election stunt like failed Sasti Roti project, besides posing some vital questions in the motion.
Through various questions in the motion, he asked that why the government had not submitted feasibility report and economic analysis before initiating this multi-billion project.
He claimed through a question that the Turkish firm, which was given Rs 50 million for preparing feasibility, has no history of carrying out such jobs, besides the design of the bus expected to ply on this road was also defective one.
He doubted that the continuous changes in the design and track of this project reflected that they had neither prepared its PC-I nor prepared any of its feasibility or design.
Zaheer asked what was the operating cost of the project, which department and experts would look after this project under what perks and privileges.
The PML-Q parliamentary leader maintained that this project would have no link with any other allied road or with ring road and resultantly this project would not help in resolving the traffic mess in the City.
While, Shaukat Basra submitted an adjournment motion in the assembly regarding the construction of meat complex in Lahore following Rana Sana Ullah’s offer to bring the matter into the house in written according to the rules and procedures.
