LAHORE – Underlining the need for adopting adequate measures to overcome electricity shortage, Punjab Chief Minister Shahabaz Sharif has said the provincial government has been working on alternative energy projects.
The energy crisis has inflicted serious damages on the national economy, he said while talking to a delegation a Chinese company, BIOMAK, on Saturday. The provincial government will set up the Punjab China Bio-Gas Institute in collaboration with the Chinese firm and an agreement with BIOMAK will soon be inked.
Constituting a steering committee under the Planning and Development chairman, the chief minister directed the body to settle all matters of the institute with the company. He said the work on this project should be initiated at the earliest.
He said BIOMAK had expertise in biogas sector and full benefit would be taken from its technology and experiences. He said there was a need of technical cooperation of the Chinese company in designing of the institute, training, preparation of master trainers and other matters.
Delegation head Ren Xiaobin said BIOMAK was conducting 50 national training courses throughout the world and the firm would extend cooperation in setting up of research institute, provision of infrastructure, preparation of master trainers and transfer of bio-gas technology to Punjab. Provincial Minister Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh, MPA Rana Afzal Khan, Chaudhry M Asadullah and officials were present in the meeting.
