LAHORE – The absence of Local Governments has aggravated poverty, in addition to depriving the masses of basic facilities like health and education, said former Federal Minister for Local Government Danyal Aziz. He was commenting on a report prepared by an international organisation ‘Save the Children’, which has painted a pathetic picture of lower and middle segment of population in Pakistan.
Mr Aziz said the LG system “keeps good check on exploitation of price hike and crime, the factors which ultimately result in creating a restive situation”. He further said that as of present crime rate has reached an alarming level, so much so that not only the citizens are feeling insecure but it has hampered the economic wheel.
