‘Robber’ shot dead in ‘fake’ encounter


LAHORE – City police staged a fake encounter in Sabzazar area after Tuesday midnight and killed an alleged gangster, police sources claimed on Wednesday.
However, police said that the two gangsters, yet to be identified, was fleeing after snatching a motorcycle at gunpoint when a police team intercepted him near Liaqat Chowk in the jurisdiction of Sabzazar police. The robbers opened fire on the police vehicle and triggered an armed encounter.
As a result, one of the bandits died on the spot while his accomplice managed to escape from the crime scene. However, no policeman was hurt in the encounter.   
Sources claimed that the robber was in police custody for the last several days and the police took him to the spot after midnight, where he was gunned down. The police later removed the dead body to the morgue for an autopsy. Further investigations are underway.
Shot dead: Gunmen killed the owner of a weight-lifting club over old enmity in South Cantonment area, police said on Wednesday.
Resident of Nishat Colony, Muhammad Raja Amjad was on his way home after shutting down the weight-lifting club when his rivals intercepted him at the doorstep.
The gunmen, later identified as Bhola, Cheema and their other accomplices, opened straight fire on Raja Amjad and managed to escape from the crime scene within no time.
Police investigators said that Raja Amjad sustained multiple bullet wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The police have removed the body to the morgue for an autopsy and are investigating with no arrest made so far.
Killed: A teenage was killed while his mother wounded seriously when a rashly driven truck hit their motorcycle in Shahdara area.
