“The officer has tendered apology to our SHO whom he had altercation with, and now he has been released,” DIG Operations Rai Tahir said.
Earlier, SP Sadar police told reporters that the man, who was security incharge of PM Gilani, abused an SHO when the police officer barred him from accompanying the premier along with a weapon at convocation of the Virtual University in Lahore.
“It was our duty to provide security to Mr. Prime Minister and other VIP personalities on the occasion, therefore, we barred the security incharge from accompanying the PM at the stage, but he abused an SHO and had altercation with our personnel,” SP Athar Waheed said.
Exclusively talking to SAMAA from a police van, the officer denied misbehaving with police personnel, saying “there might be a misunderstanding”.
Sources said Governor Punjab, Sardar Latif Khosa, averted the dispute and telephoned IG Punjab, Chief Secretary and Home Minster, ordering them to conduct an inquiry into the untoward incident.
