LAHORE – A 50-year-old security guard shot himself dead as he came to know that unidentified swindlers deprived him of Rs 13000 by telling him that he had won a prize of Rs 500,000 in Satu Katla police precincts. Resident of Balakot, Salamat Shah was working as security guard in Wapda Town area. A few days ago, he received a call on his mobile phone in which the caller introduced himself as an employee of the mobile phone company. The caller told the guard he had won a prize of Rs 500,000 during a balloting done by a cellular phone company. The swindler asked the guard to send him the number of Rs 1000 calling card so that he would be given further details about the prize. The man again contacted the guard and asked him to send another calling card of Rs 1000. Ultimately, the poor security guard deposited Rs 13,000 through calling cards in the mobile-phone account of the fake caller. On Thursday as the guard came to know that it was a total fraud rather than a prize winning contest, he got dejected and committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple. The police have removed the dead body to the morgue for an autopsy and are investigating.
