LAHORE – Though the electricity shortfall touched 4,500MW on Saturday and remained about the same on Sunday, the Pepco is all set to bridge the gap between demand and supply during Eid holidays.
Water and Power Ministry officials predicted that the demand of electricity would remain around 15,000MW from Monday (today) to Wednesday, due to the closure of government offices and industrial units. Since almost 14,500MW electricity was being generated though power production units, they held, there would be no loadshedding for domestic users during Eid holidays.
Hydrology was comparatively better and there was no major fuel supply constraints from the PSO and the SNGPL, an official said, adding that due to these factors in favour of the power sector, the distribution companies would ensure smooth supply in their limits. The Discos had already announced making arrangements for smooth electricity supply to its consumers during Eid holidays, he held.
“Hydel generation stands around 5,000MW; while IPPs and Gencos are jointly generating about 9,000MW for the energy basket, and their total sum is equal to country’s demand,” the official said.
