Faisalabad clinch Chief Minister Sports Cup

LAHO RE Faisalabad secured 387 points in total to clinch the school-level Chief Minister Sports Cup that concluded here on Saturday. On the sixth and final day of the Punjab Sports Secretariat-organised sporting activity, Sahiwal got the second place with 357 points while hosts Lahore was third with 335 points. Bahawalpur was fourth with 330 points. On the last day in badminton event for girls, Lahore beat Multan 2-0 in the final while Faisalabad was third. Ghazala of Lahore beat Multans Neelam 21-17, 21-15 and in doubles Ghazala and Farzana of Lahore beat Neelam and Zarka 21-13, 21-13. In boys category, Sahiwal beat Gujranwala 2-0 thus filling the first two places and Faisalabad was placed third. Sahiwals Sajid Iqbal beat Nadeem Sarwar 21-19, 17-21, 21-9. In doubles, Sajid Talha and beat Nadeem and Faisal 21-13, 21-11, 16-21. For the third place match, Faisalabad beat Bahawalpur 2-0. Faisalabads Shahnawaz beat Umar 21-6, 21-11. In doubles, Shahnawaz Zeeshan and beat Umar and Ijazul Haq 21-10, 21-4. Lahore beat Sahiwal in a hard fought football final to win the event 4-3. Faisalabad was third in the event. The finalists played a one-all draw in the given time and they had to move out for penalty kicks in which Lahore converted four goals and Sahiwal produced three. Faisalabad beat Sargodha 2-1 to get third place. Zafarullah and Ilyas scored goals from the winners while Mohammad Usman scored from the losing side. In girls, volleyball Gujranwala beat Bahawalpur 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-9) to win the event while Rawalpindi was third with win over Lahore 3-0 (25-18, 25-8, 25-8). Naila performed well for Rawalpindi while Sofia Sadaf of Gujranwala was declared the best player of the match and Samera Kausar was the player of the tournament. In boys volleyball, Faisalabad beat Sahiwal 3-1 in the final to secure the winner place with a score of 25-18, 27-29, 25-23, 25-17. Mohammad Saleem of Faisalabad was declared the best player of the tournament while Asim Irshad of Sahiwal was adjudged the player of the final. However, the closing ceremony of the cup was marked by the conclusion of the athletics events here at the Punjab Stadium. Min boys 4x100 relay event, Faisalabad was winner while Sahiwal and Sargodha followed at second and third place and 4x100 metres relay for girls Faisalabad took the title while Lahore and Sahiwal were second and third respectively. In the end, chief guest Provincial Minister Haji Mohammad Ishaq gave away the medals, certificates and trophies to the winner and runner-up teams. While the main trophy and cash awards will be given to the players at the conclusion of the third phase of the sporting extravaganza.
