February 20, 2009

LAHO RE - Deposed judge Khawaja Muhammad Sharif has warned present govt against failure in reinstating sacked judges and said it would prove destructive for its survival. Addressing lawyers at the Lahore Bar Association ahead of weekly rally, Khawaja said the rulers should realise their mistakes sooner than later otherwise they would face the same fate that of Musharraf. He made it clear that lawyers movement would not end rather it would remain a thorny issue for present and future governments. He condemned Musa Khan's murder in Swat saying that government writ had abolished in NWFP and Balochistan. People are being beheaded, foreigners are being kidnapped but no one is arrested. He stressed upon then government to provide financial assistance to the family of slain journalist. Without naming PML-N or its leaders, He regretted over their statements about sit-in saying they were diehard supporters of free judiciary but are showing their reservations. The lawyers had not invited them to join but they should be thankful to lawyers because their movement made their return possible to country. He appreciated the role of media saying it had given awareness to masses and brought truth to fore. He hoped that long march and the sit-in would wipe out present regime. He said he did not take oath under PCO because his conscience did not allow doing it. He said he would remain the part of lawyers' movement till the last drop of blood in his body and would only take oath after the restoration of chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. President Lahore Bar Association Rana Zia Abdur Rehman and other also addressed on the occasion and lambasted government for deviating its promise on judges' issue.
