LAHORE – Renowned Eye Specialist Prof Syed Ali Hyder, who was murdered along with his son Murtaza Hyder in a drive-by shooting, was laid to rest at the Gulberg graveyard on Tuesday, amid tight security.
Talking to the media after funeral prayer, Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Prof Anjam Habib Vohra said that the deceased had restored the vision of hundreds of visually-impaired people.
His opinion was considered to be the authority on eye related complications. It is unfortunate for not only the PGMI and LGH but also for the general public that such a kind hearted professional brutally murdered, he said. He appealed to the chief minister to immediately give financial assistance to the bereaved family. He demanded security for his family.
MOURNING: A mourning day was observed at medical teaching institutions and district hospitals all over the province. Doctors provided treatment to patients while wearing black armbands.

The Outdoor Department of LGH remained closed as a protest against the assassination. The patients admitted to the eye ward looked sad and depressed.
APCA unit of PGMI and paramedical staff of LGH held a protest rally at Hali Road after Namaz-e-Janaza and demanded early arrest of the culprits.
The Young Doctors Association has announced three-day mourning to protest against gruesome murder. Addressing a press conference at Jinnah Hospital, YDA Punjab President Dr Javed Aheer said that the doctors would work at all departments while wearing black armbands. Flanked by other office bearers of YDA, he said that the patients would not suffer as doctors would continue to provide healthcare facilities.
He said that the YDA would persue the murder case if the famly failed to do so. He urged the government to provide security to the doctors so that they could serve the ailing humanity with peace of mind.
A condolence meeting was held at Shaikh Zayed Hospital to pay tributes to Prof Hyder.
Chairman and Dean SZH Prof Zafar Iqbal, faculty members, doctors and allied staff gathered to offer fateha. Medical teachers offered condolence to Dr Zafar Hyder, father of Prof Ali Hyder. Dr Zafar Hyder is teacher of most of the doctors working at SZH.
