JI urges Raja to act against corruption in RPPs

LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hassan said on Saturday that Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf should adopt concrete measures against those involved in corruption in rental power projects (RPPs).
Raja had announced on Friday to take strict action against those involved in taking money from the ISI in the 1990 general elections as per the direction of the Supreme Court. Talking to people’s delegations at Mansoora, Munawar said that the prime minister should also have announced to take action against those who looted the national exchequer and deposited it in the Swiss banks.
The Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer recalled that Raja himself had been facing corruption charges and the Supreme Court had ordered to block three of his accounts in different banks. “The PPP-led government has been openly flouting the apex court’s orders for the past four years, but the prime minister seems least bothered about it,” he added.
Munawar further said that the Supreme Court had issued orders that dual office for the president was against the law and the Constitution, but Asif Ali Zardari did not abide by them.
