Real-estate agent abducted for Rs5m

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Unidentified kidnappers have abducted a real-estate agent from Factory Area police jurisdiction and demanded Rs five million as ransom for his safe release, police sources said here on Tuesday. Mohammad Abbas, resident of (F-Block) Punjab Housing Society, was on his way to a nearby market when unidentified gunmen intercepted him a few hundreds meter away from his residence. The gunmen bundled him into a car at gunpoint and took him to some unknown location. Late on Monday night, the kidnappers contacted Abida Bibi, wife of the victim, by phone and demanded Rs five million as ransom. Police sources said that the abductors contacted the victim family by using the cellular phone of the abductee and also threatened them that they would kill Abbas if the family tried to disclose the happening to the police. The police have registered the case and are investigating with no arrest made so far. The incidents of abductions have shot up alarmingly here in the City. Last month, gunmen abducted American development expert Dr Warren and Shahbaz Taseer, the son of slain governor Punjab Salman Taseer.
