LAHORE – The provincial government has directed the Metro Bus Authority to finish work on the stations and junctions without further delay, sources said.
They added that the higher authorities of the government took notice of the unfinished work on almost a dozen of the stations and junctions of the MBS project from Muslim Town to Shahdra and stressed the officers concerned to speed up work with reconstructing and improving the condition of such portions which were being completed temporarily and in haste keeping in view the inauguration of the project.
The government also noticed that the officers of concerned departments got lethargic because of change of focus of the government after the inauguration of the project which minimized pressure on the project directors and officials of other departments, sources added.
“In fact, the government was not happy with the performance of the officers concerned because of delay in completion of the project and further such officers could not complete work, already on finishing stage even after passing one and half week of its inauguration which annoyed the government”, the sources added. the authorities concerned of such worth Rs30 billion project, could not achieve the deadline given by the government again and again regarding timely completion of the project.
As earlier, it was due to be inaugurated on December 25 by the chief minister after repeated delay. The inauguration first was scheduled for the last week of October, followed by November-end, December 25 and January 5 and finally the Punjab CM inaugurated the project on February 10 despite some uncompleted junctions.
A project director says, seeking anonymity, that the task will be accomplished in some days only. He claims that the remaining work on about a dozen junctions and on some sections is at the final stage and will be finished soon.
The 30-kilometre BRT track has overall about 31 stations and junctions from Gajju Matta to Shahdara. The system features e-ticketing, signal-free road where 200 buses are planned to be plied with three-minute interval and initially MBS Authority plied about 24 buses on the day of inauguration and later the authority rapidly increased the number of buses on the track. The authority also gave free of cost traveling for citizens for a month, which later was withdrawn by the authority after one week of inauguration due to certain reasons. According to an announcement of MBS Authority, metro bus service would operate as per routine from Febuary 20 Wednesday (today) in the provincial metropolis and all arrangements have been finalized for this purpose.
